Made In America - The American Saddlebred Horse
Known as "Peacock of the Show Ring", the American Saddlebred breed is a very American which is famous for its showy gaits. Mills, Springfield, Illinois, began compiling pedigrees and formulating rules for a registry. A blurb in a Louisville, Kentucky newspaper called for a meeting April 7, 1891 to organize the association and the Association of American saddle horse breeders (Ashba) was created on the same day. It was the first association of race horse registry in the United States for an American race horse.
In 1908, after years of discussion, Ashba has formally recognized Denmark FS as the only foundation sire of the horse American saddle. However, after careful consideration of bloodlines in 1991 Head of 1606 Harrison was also named a Foundation Sire for his contribution to the formation of race.
