Barrel Racing Stirrups
Tips for the transition from Western to English?
I began English classes soon. I've been riding Western and barrel racing for 10 years and I have my own horses, and I'm not really change, but do it in English on the side. Finally, I want to teach my English horses. I already know how to post. I've been posting since the beginning. But I've never ridden in a saddle English before. The barn I ride at is hunter / jumper. I noticed they were really short stirrups. I'm not used to that. I watched a lesson in intermediaries and do not really notice anything that I do not know already, except for skipping the file. What are the difficulties May I meet? Any tips?
I understand where you are coming from. I drove to the West since the age of 4 years. I rolled in English may be two or so, about 8 years, just because my instructor thought I might look cute together in "English costume" ... I know she was a weirdo LOL. When I was that old though, I despised English riders, I thought they seemed so snobby. Eh Well, I know better now though ... but anyway I never really drove in English until about four or five years. So thats 10 years or 11 although I was a rider from the west. The first time you sit on the English saddle, it feels so weird. To me, he wanted something was missing. Western saddles are naturally "safer" than an English saddle, horn and pommel area is just a printing, it keeps you better. So for a while, it made me funny, but I definitely never slid around or anything because of it. As you have a good seat things should not change. He also felt weird because the stirrups move MUCH easier (this is only a Band leather, while in the west there is a big wide Fender). Again, it did not effect my riding, it felt strange for a while. The difficulty I had was that I never kept my back tight enough. In the west you keep more of a rein, whereas in English we can keep in contact with the tool. So I struggled to keep my kidneys prepared as much as my instructor wanted me too. To Otherwise, I think you're well. Try not to worry about it, relax and it will be much easier. Do not put Psych not this lesson, I am sure they will understand that this is your first time! Good luck and remember to have fun.
