Horse Color Genetics - and all the other colors (Part 3)
As mentioned above, horses have two genes for basic color, black (B) and red (b). Bay horses happen because a special modifier gene called the agouti gene makes the coat color melted dark-brown, leaving black spots. But that covers only the most basic colors. And the others?
Each color is created by some form modifying genes. These genes can be superimposed on each other, so you can find a horse to buck that Pinto markings that fade to gray. To keep things simple, we examine several color changes over the current time.
A color modifier is particularly popular is the cream gene. It is the gene that causes horses to be buckskins or palominos. The cream gene is a dominant gene. Not only is dominant but it is also expressed differently depending on how many copies there are the gene in a horse.
Let's start with a horse chestnut. Genetically, the horse (BB), which give the characteristic red color. Now we add a single copy gene cream. Now the horse is (BB CC) which means that it is a diluted red color is palomino. If you add a second copy of the gene cream (BB CC) dilution is stronger and the horse is a cremello with pink skin and blue eyes.
When you add the cream gene to a bay horse, you end up with a skin deer. With a second copy of the gene for the cream, the horse is called a double diluted Perlino. Blacks are affected somewhat differently. A single copy gene cream is a black smoke which visually shows very little difference to a regular black. However, when the cream is homozygous gene is expressed full force and produced a creamy black.
Color breeders covet especially cremello or Perlino horses for their breeding programs. It is because whatever the color of the horse to you, the foal is guaranteed to express some form of gene cream. This is why you will often see cremello stallions advertised with a 100% Color.
Other genes that dilute the color of the dress are the champagne gene, the gene Dun and the gene of money. A horse with the champagne gene can be "gold" (the chestnut), "orange" (the bay) or "Classic" (black background). The Dun gene causes the black strip you see sometimes on the backs of horses. Silver Horses benefit from light colored manes and tails caused by dilution of the expression of the color black, not red / brown.
Another color modifier which is often considered is the Roan gene. As the cream gene, the gene is dominant Roan. If a horse is not Roan she can have a colt. Roan has a real nice white hairs throughout the coat, except their faces and legs. While often confused with grays, especially in the case of blue roans (Roan on black), they do not go the way one is gray with time.
An interesting fact about chestnuts is that there is nothing like a Roan homozygous. It was first discovered when the conception rate of farms where two horses were Roan Crusaders were all decidedly inferior to that of other horses. In fact there were 25% less live foals from these farms. From what they could infer that, if the embryo carries two copies of the Roan gene combination is lethal and the embryo dies. If you look the following list, where (R) means the gene and Roan (r) mean gene Roan, you'll see why the ratio of lethal foals was 25%.

Now that we have isolated Roan gene was demonstrated in studies of DNA.
Perhaps the basis of farmers is the gene for the color gray. This gene highly dominant will wash out all effects from other color modifiers. A horse with the gray gene is often born with no signs of aging. As he aging gray starting to show. Some gray horses, following a trend "fleabitten", while others have a donkey "pattern. Both genes are different, but both have the same result set. Finally, a gray horse will lose their coat color and be white. Because they are born with dark skin these horses are not true whites, they are called instead of gray.
Over there are many other color genes modifiers. Some were drawn in studies of DNA. Others are still a mystery. In studying the traits of each color gene you can have a reasonable way to guess what your colt May be like once he arrived. Certainly, there are still many aspects that are unknown, but at least you can have a pretty good idea of what color your baby could be.
