Chicago Floor Sanding

Chicago sanding floors refinishing, staining and a polyurethane hardwood floor

In this post I explained how you finish floor.
Floor Sanding Preparation: Remove the carpet
If you have carpet you will you retire! This part is simple, just tug on one corner and pull it off the board tack. Cut the rug long 3 or four food sections using a cutter sharpened. Simply roll it up and haul the trash.

You'll be left with your pad. In my case, the block was simply stapled down and not stuck if you just do about the same as the carpet and just ride and haul the trash.
when you get all the carpets and rugs that you removed to get rid of staples and cardboard Tack. Invest in a good elimination molding lever. It will resemble a standard lever on one end, but it has some weird trained other which is specifically designed to take nails finishing off crowded places. This specific tool will allow you save tons of time! As for staples, em out with pliers, it is time consuming but easy enough.

Preparation: remove trim

If you trim that overlaps the hardwood, you should remove that too. It is fairly easy if you purchased the lever casting. Just to excavate and remove finishing nails.
Once you are done with all that you left your wooden floor and you're ready for the real pleasure.
Select a Sander:
Now it's time to rent a floor sander. There are several different types that you can rent from Home Depot. They are all close in price, but different in some strategies.
Belt sander: It is intended to remove the layers of your floor quickly. This may be best left to a pro, since you can screw on your floor faster with it.
Orbital Sander - 3 discs: The grinder is one of the commoner, she is simple to use and good for a beginner. It is somewhat more pronounced than the next sander.
Orbital Sander - square pad: This is the least authoritarian but perhaps the most lenient. Because you have to make many passes with the sander if you want to actually get to bare wood it may take much time but good for a beginner. This one I used.

Floor sanding:

For this tutorial I will discuss use a square pad orbital sander because that's what I used. Start with a grit sandpaper 30-40 and slowly make a pass underway with the floor. You should see the polyurethane and some of the stain comes off fairly quickly. The pads do not last long because all they get Bouquets of polyurethane on them so I went through two plates of every ten by 10 region.
.
Note: Edit your template. Do not stop and not always leave on the same spot on the floor. It can create a model that is noticeable.

Since it is forgiving and you can go and in the same place, without really digging into the wood too much, so my recommendation would be to go to each spot a couple of times before and behind, then go to the next line. If you did and you need to reconsider what is not a problem. Just remember that you will use a higher grain (finer) sandpaper later that will take off a little more wood. The most vital is to ensure all polyurethane is on the ground.

Note: I had some problems because some of my teeth in the floor, I was not getting any shine on the ground in each place. But when I went to the paper thinner glass almost got it all this off.

Since the large floor sander can not get all the way to the edge that you'll have to use a sander hand with similar grain of the paper on the sides. It takes an eternity and I am not 100% my own, but as I was marking help pay up to my faults.
After you are done take a couple of passes 30-40 grit paper, do the same thing with 60-80 grit sandpaper. This should take less time because you touch things.
Ultimately, you put on your best sandpaper (150 grains). You should not need back on a few occasions and these pads should last in the region twice as long. I used 2 for an area 400sq foot.
Remember not to the edges with your grinder by hand after each step.

You should be left with a floor without life dull and small, if any, dyeing. The next step is very striking and application of polyurethane.
Flooring Stain
Before you stain the floor that you must be sure all dust particles and are on the ground and the central air is off. First sweep the ground and vacuum until you can. Then you can wet rags cloth with mineral spirits and use it like a tack cloth.
Applying the patch is simple. I used a stain applicator brush attached to a stick. Pretty good wipe in the direction of the wood. Do it in sections, then wait about 5 minutes and wipe the excess stain off with lint free rags. Then proceed to the next section and repeat.
The process can be long with all the waiting between sections. I made two sections on different sides of the house at a time to rush it.

Drying time:
Once the task is done, you had to wait for it to dry. I used Cabot oil-based stain and it took over 48 hours to dry because there was not much ventilation in the house and it was cold and rainy outside. Once the task ceases to be sticky in most spots you are probably ready to put it on your arrival. Sweep the floor and get up any dust.

Chicago Floor Sanding Floor finishing with polyurethane
If you bought oil-based stain then you'll want oil-based polyurethane. Apply it in much the same way you do the task. I used a lambs wool applicator brush attached to a stick. Sure that rinse with mineral spirits in advance or you get lots of wool on the ground. Apply it in a thin layer and make sure it covers all surfaces. I did 2 passes with the pad.

After you get your first coat of the kind I said you can apply another in 12 hours without sanding. I have read terrible stories about this on the Internet. So, I would in a standard way and wait 12-24 hours until it is dry, then sand down. You can sand by attaching a find (250-300 grit) piece of sandpaper to a foam MOP head and go on the floor lightly. You just try to scratch up so the next layer will bond to the previous layer.
Clean the dust I used a micro-fiber fabric and swept up. Then use your mind mineral material tack to get up a fine dust.
Apply your next layer and wait!

Curing time
After your second coat, you should be done, all you have to do is wait speak to heal. This time varies, but the general rule is that after 2 days, you can have a traffic light foot on the floor and after 4 or 5 days, you can put your furniture back on it. Do not put on the table until after a week or more.
