Tooled Dark Oil

Tips on Oil Painting - One Basic Approach to the creation of an oil on canvas
In this article I will give you a overview of my personal approach to creating an oil painting. Over there are of course many valid approaches to painting and with experience you will develop your own approach. But if you start painting you may want to try and practice the following approach:
* Drawing Phase - I usually first run a regular pattern on the canvas. This design can be anything from a few lines a fully detailed map of all forms. May of that include indications of where the lights and shadows are and what colors must be used.
A drawing tool for a good oil painting charcoal. Of course, the best tool is a mixture diluted neutral paint and a brush. However, it takes some getting used to. Often, I currently use a graphite pencil and when the drawing is finished, I spray the drawing with workable fixative. If you do use graphite you need to do it gently because the graphite can migrate into your painting.
The advantage of starting with a design is that many important decisions can be made in advance and that everything is in place when you have finished drawing. After that, all that remains is painting.
* The block-in phase - This is the first phase painting. I use quite thinned out paint and a brush that feels a little bigger than what it should be. Here you focus on the main forms that you see in your drawing. Do not pay attention to detail. What is important here is that you observe the colors of the forms correctly and that you maintain the integrity drawing.
Usually I start with the dark forms. Can I carry the forms with the brightest color (ie those who stand) always making sure the colors are harmonized. Finally, I put in the colors more subtle many be duller and more difficult to judge.
Again, in this phase to keep the details of painting. Maintaining the correct geometry of the main forms, their exact color (hue, intensity, and value), and their correct position within the composition of the task. And do not forget to include the substance.
At the end This phase of my painting is usually completely covered with paint, ie, no white areas are left unpainted. This gives you a good idea of how all the colors look like over the other and if they are in harmony, without the influence of bright white areas.
* The phase shaping - Now you can begin to model the large shapes and refine them so that they begin to resemble the real objects you try to paint. In this phase I use a paint thicker than the block-in phase and also brush a little smaller. Also, I refine the relationship of color in hue, intensity, and value as best I can.
This phase usually requires more time and effort. However, do not be not attempted to minutiae. At the end of this phase, you should already have a very good idea of how the final product will look.
* The phase Detail - This is the last phase. It's time to indulge in details. Details include things like small twigs, pupils and irises for the eyes, small lines and curves, and stress, in other words, everything can be done with a large brush. Some details need paint thinner (more preferable to a dry basement) and others, such as highlights, often need good thickness of paint out of the tube.
The guidelines above are certainly not complete in detail but are a good starting point for any early painter of oil.
